Smile for the Camera

The other day, I told Rob that there were virtually NO pictures of TJ and I together, as I am usually the one taking the pictures. Being the good husband he is, Rob promptly grabbed the camera, and took a few pictures:

And my personal favorite: The Yawn

I have to say, this kid is so cute, it's a little intimidating to be in a picture next to him.

What I Didn't Know

The decision to become a mother was one that I battled with for a long time. I was all too aware of everything that I'd have to give up; my perfect body (ha ha ha), my freedom, my independence and selfishness, just to name a few. I knew that babies took over their parents' lives, from sun-up to sun-down; trips to the mall for new designer shoes turned into trips to Wal-Mart for diapers; friday night-out dates turned into evenings-in calming a colicky baby. I knew that the average newborn spends eight hours a day feeding, needs a diaper changed about every two hours, needs baths, to be held, rocked, cleaned up after, and countless other minutiae that come to define the day.
But what I didn't know, what I really couldn't know, what no amount of book-reading or preparation could really tell me...

...is how much I'd like him. That I'd love him so much that everything I'd have to give up would pale in comparison to what I'd gain.

And it doesn't really feel like I've sacrificed anything at all.

Tom&Tommy

This weekend, TJ got to meet his namesake: Rob's dad, Tom Glade. When we were discussing names for Baby Glade, we both wanted to use a name with family signifigance. Neither of us remember who first suggested Thomas as a name, but we came up with the idea early on, and it was always high on our list. By the time he was born, we had it narrowed down to about 2 or 3 names. The final decision ended up being pretty easy: we wanted him to have a name that he could be proud of, to be named after someone he could always look up to, and to have a name that could always be spelled and pronounced easily. Thanks for letting us use your name, Tom!

Fighting Sleep

Today was one of me and TJ's first day's all alone. All of my helpers have now left, and he was all my problem. Can you even imagine a cuter problem, though?

I think that Grandpa Tom and Grandma Sandy kinda liked the little guy.

I Heart TJ

So here we are, not quite 3 weeks old, and he can already hold his head up all by himself. He loves to lay on my chest or stomach and he will just look all around. As his eyes get better and better, his interest in the world deepens. It's so fun to watch.

TJ has a HEALTHY HEALTHY appetite. He already weighs nearly 10 lbs!!! (No wonder I'm having such a hard time with my milk supply...) He tries to eat checks, noses, etc.

It was so great to have my mom here for a visit. I'm glad she was able to meet my little boy, and spend some time with me --even if I was a little too tired to be as much fun as normal. Rob was great and watched TJ for us, so we were able to go shopping at Ann Taylor Loft one evening. After months of maternity clothes, it was tons of fun.

Text Message

Sorry, I know that ya'll are clamoring for pictures. But I have a reasonable excuse for slacking (other than the fact that I have a new infant to care for): about two days after TJ was born, my camera--already well on it's way to The Land of Malfunctioning Electronics--caught a ticket on the Express and went totally KAPUT. Now, ordinarily, before making a purchase of this sort, I would research extensively, and then price shop extensively before finally buying. This time was the exception. I told Rob it was absolutely unacceptable to have a new baby and no camera. So I got online, did about an hour's worth of camera research, and sent Rob to BestBuy to get me a new Canon Powershot SD1100IS. Which, turns out that BestBuy does a pricematch; during the course of my speed-research, I found the camera for cheaper, and they matched the price.
So, we have a camera, a beautiful baby, and lots of pictures taken with the new camera. Now, someone just has to find the time to learn how to transfer the pictures to the computer.
